Studio Production: Applying/ Receiving Roles
Applying
After pitching we all had to put our names down for the jobs that we wanted. Before this step I was so sure of what I wanted to apply for, but when it came down to it, I wasn't so sure and it took me a while. My choices where as followed;
- Studio Camera/ VT Director
- Director
- Vision Mixer
When applying, I saw the tab that said "Lead camera/ VT Producer". I had originally put this down but then I thought about what producing entailed and I bottled it. The idea of creating content seemed a little mundane for me as I did not enjoy making scripts before. I remember finding it quite tedious because of all the different little format rules you would have to follow in order to make an industry standard script. So I applied for what I knew I would enjoy, I went for the safe option.
Interviewing Process
I enjoyed this process because I went in with one set of thoughts and came out of the room with a completely different set of thoughts. After being congratulated on my updated CV Layout, Helen went through my options with me and asked me why I chose the roles I did.
She explained to me that there was no need for me to be intimidated by the VT Prodcuer role because I was more than capable of accomplishing what was required. After she broke it down for me, explaining that;
- A VT Producer would put forward their ideas and take the lead on the VT teams ideas, selecting the ones that I thought would be good enough.
- Overseeing and creating content
- Working with Directors, ensuring that they create the vision that I would have as well as what they would want.
- Lead Camera will also oversee the other cameras and make sure everyone knows when to white balance etc
After going through these options, I was able to understand that I am more than capable of achieving this. I genuinely enjoy taking charge of situations in order to get the best results for a final product, so I was more inspired by what Helen had told me. I was very happy that she saw potential in me and wanted me to try something out of my comfort zone.
I then left the room feeling much more confident about myself and confident that I'll be able to take on a new challenge.
Receiving the roles
I was not surprised when I received the VT Prodcuer Role and Lead camera due to our previous discussion but I was a little surprised at the idea that was chosen as it didn't seem as origninal to me at the time. Nevertheless, I was still really excited about my role and ready to take on the next challenges that come my way.
