Studio Production: Feedback and finalising ideas with Helen
After providing Helen some information on my preferred Idea, I received feedback that was very beneficial to the development of my idea. I went into the room with a very scattered idea and I knew it needed direction.
My idea consisted of having fashion enthusiasts
Helen's Feedback;
- Characters are important, it may need a backstory. who would be in it?
- The "dash", is this something quick? - expand on this more
- Can look at shows like Gok Wan, Trinni and Susanna. Shows like these worked because it was shocking to the audience and contributors, got given back a sense of self esteem.
- Think about who would I care about? interesting to work with materials but would it be contributors who have never done it or people who are familiar?
- Strong concept, challenges sell the brand? is it serious or not? may be better if they don't know what they're doing.
- Could be about students who want to be noticed, less about being a quiz, more about a talent show.
- Can look at Great British Bake Off and Sewing Bee. - Living - refine the rounds, give a sense of what I'm testing, any judges?
- Remember that VT's allow longer time.
- Build up character profiles for the show. new talent etc.
Next steps;
After hearing Helen's feedback I will now have a look at the examples she has given me and see if I can finalise my ideas for the pitch. I am still a little unsure in the direction of the entire show but I am hoping that by watching the examples, I can come to a conclusion.
Got Wan's Fashion fix;
When looking at this episode of Fashion Fix I noticed a few things. Firstly, it was interesting to see the use of what would've been considered/played as a VT as we were able to be transported elsewhere, somewhere that we wouldnt normally be able to go. It gave excitement as much as context towards the topic and this is something I could work with, They were almost on a mission to find things in Dani Minogue's house and so this is something new for the viewers and everyone involved as they did not know what they would find.
Another thing is the element of surprise with the use of the laundry bag on stage. It fit with the fashion context and the reaction of the unsuspecting contributor is what makes it interesting. Clearly the element of surprise is the motivation for this show.
Trinny And Susannah- What not to wear;
During this episode, you can see that Trinny and Susannah take a more harsh/ expository approach in building the confidence and self esteem of their selected contributor. that is because they have built their own character in which they are well renowned for doing as such. it is now expected from them because of their branding. This showed me the importance of having strong hosts who's personality can carry a show. Such as Celebrity Juice's Keith Lemon, it is hard to imagine that show without him. So for my show, I would want to make sure I have a strong host that is very aware of what outcome they want for the contributors.
Next steps;
- finalise my ideas
- research for the pitch and complete my pitch slide show
