Studio Production: Sourcing Actors

Sourcing Actors

In order for us to get the best possible contributors for our VTs at a reasonable price, we chose to source actors from Casting Call Pro. Saskia Tatt (VT Director) took charge of the initial add posting whilst I wrote the scripts.

Below is the advertisement that she had put up on the website;

Here are the number of responses we got in the end;

Norman Response

Trivia response

We were delighting with the amount of people who were interested and applied, however, some did not respond after applying, others dropped out after seeing previous work and 1 person who we were really hoping for, had agreed to take part but once they saw the script, they realised they had misunderstood the brief as they thought it was an advertisement for contestants. As a producer, there shouldn't be any misunderstanding within the advertisement so now I know that if I am required to oversee an advertisement for a casting, I must check it through to make sure all the relevant information is there. This will potentially save us time (which is of the essence during this production)

Luckily, I managed to get into contact with an actor who previously worked on one of our student's projects before who said he was willing to take part as he was eager to build his show reel. This was perfect timing as we were very desperate for someone to fill the part of Norman. Darren Hammock (pictured Below) was extremely cooperative and was free on all of the days that we needed him to be. It was a very fortunate event because we were able to successfully book him in and plan for our shoot with enough time for him to familiarise with his lines as well as us to source the props and do the set dressing.

Whats great about Darren is the fact that he also wears glasses so he will be able to fullfill the role even better.
Next Steps

  • Source all props in a cost effective manner. Stick within the budget and get as many things from peers as possible.
  • confirm with Darren that he will be able to do the shoot
  • Confirm with Darren what items of clothing he will be able to bring in order to save money
  • Send character profiles and all necessary information to Darren.
