Studio Production: Researching preferred roles
After Having a session with Helen on all the roles that wold be available, There were a few roles that initially stood out to me;
- VT editor
- Director
- Studio Camera
I was immediately drawn the these roles because during previous projects, those are the things that I enjoyed the most. However, those were for very small productions in comparison to this project. The idea of being a director for a team as large as this is very daunting to me but I do believe that I can do anything if I really put my mind to it. I thought it would be a good idea to research some of the roles that i'm interested in to see if they are something I should apply for.
Director;
Multi cam Director John Smith says;
Camera:
"Requirements of the camera operator position are different for every show and every Director."
"will need to become highly proficient in the use of the studio camera in order to be of value to the Director"
"The operator will need to be flexible, able to capture/ acquire professional quality images while responding to the technical requirements of the camera itself"
- Andrew Utterback, Studio Television production and Directing
I am really interested in this role because I know that I am passionate about cameras and I am good at following orders as well. I really hope I get this role as it sounds perfect for me. However, I am also stuck between choosing something that I don't know anything about,, such as vision Mixing. I think learning a completely new skill is something I would also love to do but I would hate to apply for something then later realise that it isn't the role for me.
Next steps
- prepare my cv for review with Helen and Laura, make sure I apply for jobs I am willing to put my all into.

Director;
" Director is at the top of the personnel hierachy"
"Familiar with all of the crew's position and responsibilities" - (utterback, A. 2007:18)
Multi cam Director John Smith says;
“At least 75% of the work is done before you visit in front of the monitors” - John Smith, BBC Academy
This role seems very organisational and I am not sure I have the best track record for being that organised however I do believe I am good at giving directions effectively. I believe I have good communication skills.
