Studio Production: Feedback on first shoot from Helen

Rough Cut Feedback
Unfortunately the feedback wasn't so good but this was kind of expected on my behalf. One mistake we made that Helen pointed out was the fact that the VT Producer and Directors did not sit in with the editors to edit. It made sense because when I saw the edits I had noticed some details where missing and it wasn't quite cut to the pace I had imagined it but that is not entirely their fault. I thought that by leaving an editing guide on the google drive about what style and tone we would want would be enough to give them pointers but also let them have the free reign that an editor might want to have. I thought this would be a good thing but Helen has corrected that error now. Well done to the editors for trying their best with what they had, they did a great job.

I have summarised the feedback received from from Helen on the Rough Cuts;

Mockumentary;

  •  Good Character that carries the story
  • The wire from his ear is in shot and very obvious, may very well have to re shoot this scene
  • Tighten up the overall video
  • cut out unnecessary talking and dead space
  • Pace is too slow, he speaks too slow so we must get him to say the words even faster to keep a faster pace
  • Mix the sounds and build the sounds
  • Get rid of the lengthy pauses
Trivia;
  • His speech is unclear and he mispronounces words. It throws off the whole video
  • Film pick ups
  • Headroom on some shots are not correct
  • film cutaways
  • Get clearer shots as he is soft for some of the shots
Trailer;

  • Tighten up the cuts, make it faster paced
  • sound design needs work, cartoon like sounds can enhance
  • Good sequencing of the story
  • Did not understand the starbucks part, despite the edit did not have it's special effects.

The end result is that we have to re film most of the shots including the trivia ones which is a shame but expected at the same time. For next time, I will make sure to oversee the work properly and speak up if I notice something. Last time I noticed something minute which then became one of the reasons for reshooting so it is important that I do my job properly as we will not have time to re shoot if we do not get this one right this time. My next step as a producer is to find another date for us to film. A date where Darren is free as well as the Directors. This is proving to be difficult due to work experiences, the days that we potentially have has been cut down by half due to this. We might have to cut into rehearsal time as that may seem like the only option if we cannot find a solution.
