Studio Production: Researching the target Audience

Target Audience

When thinking about what channel my TV show would fit, it was important to get information on how well my show would be received. I looked at what shows certain channels provided for the genre I was looking for and it came to my attention that Lifetime TV was the best channel to target my show at.

Taken from Sky Media online, they described Lifetime TV as;

" A brand that celebrates women and represents their power, creativity and passion in a positive and inclusive way." - Sky Media Online, 2017
This is something that I am aiming to achieve within my show, I want to provide a platform where people can illustrate their creativity in a fun, entertaining way so it is clear that this channel is the one for me.

In order to further grasp what this channel is about, I went onto BARB (Broadcasters Audience Research Board) in order to gather some data on the trends of the channel. Here I have looked at the weekly most watched programmes in January 2016 to determine if my content would be suitable as well as possible good reception.

In both of these images I found that Britain's Next Top Model to be at the top of the leader board, whilst Project Runway Ranks within the top 5 in both weeks. This illustrates that the channel's audience seem to be really interested in the topics of fashion. Both of those shows are very different from eachother as well since one shows the perspective from a models point of view and another from the designers point of view. This is why I believe my content would be perfect for this channel because it can be a way of mixing the two as well as showcasing different talents all to do with fashion. This heightens my confidence for my idea as I can see that there isn't really an idea like mine on this list. I will tackle talent in a way that isn't as serious as the shows mentioned but focusing more on the fun elements of it.

Next Steps;

  • I will now move forward with my idea and further develop my pitch.
