News Unit: Re shoot day Number 1. Presenter package and pictures.

Re Shooting the Presenter parts

We decided to re-shoot the presenter parts with both Rosie and I. We automatically felt better prepared for the shoot as we knew we had the right amount of kit and also had a bit of practice for the lines. For this day it was our plan to set up the lighting and the kit in ways that would be very flattering for the hosts and to record the presenter broadcasts and take pictures to upload to the website. This meant that we shouldn't have any harsh shadows on the face or the back drop.

The set up;
Since we shot on a white background, We wanted clean lighting. We worked as a team to balance out the lighting and in the end we were really happy with the outcome. Below is an image of the set up on the day and also a still from the footage.

For the sound recording, we used a directional Rode microphone that was pointed at both Rosie and I. We knew this would be fine because we were filming in a confined space with minimal disturbances. We were also at a decent distance from the camera so we didn't need a boom pole.

What happened in the re shoot;
During this re shoot, I found that I had a much easier and natural flow when going through the script with Rosie. We were able to bounce off of each other and find the right words to say when we would practice before recording. I was really pleased  with our ability to fill in the gaps of the script.

We also took pictures for the website. We decided to keep the same lighting as we were really pleased with the clean outcome that we got from the recording. Our aim was to get a variety of simple, smiling shots that showed more of our personality. We really enjoyed this and it was a good end to the day. The shots were very clear and our aim was completed.

What went well?
One of the things that made this shoot go well was the fact that I had practised the lines and knew what I had to say for most of it. For the parts that I wasn't so familiar with, because we had the scripts there in bullet point fashion, it was really easy to use those to refer to and create what I needed to say. So in other ways, our preparation for that came in really handy and really helped us progress through the shoot.

Our ability to move effectively and efficiently through the shoot. We finished this re shoot in around 3 - 4 hours which was much more quicker than our first shoot. It is clear that organisation and planning is essential.

I also loved the way the images came out, they are crystal clear, focused and in my opinion really well lit.

What didn't go well?
There was some background noise being picked up on the mic from students and teachers who walked past the rooms. At one point there was a group talking outside of the room we were shooting in and we had to remind them to be quiet. We were also worried about our sound being compromised because we could hear people talking but when we came out to tell them, there was no one in sight. Some whilst recording we had to take chances in shooting at the quietest points. We were hoping that the sounds wouldn't be picked up so me and Rosie had to speak up to try and cover it up a bit.

What I learnt from this?

  • I mostly learnt the importance of organisation. Thanks to Imogen for providing us with the printed script we were able use this to keep on track with our script.

Next steps;
  • Go over the shot lists for the live segment and wilson's segment. Prepare ourselves as much as possible for those shoot so it goes smoothly.
  • Edit and continue to create the graphics and branding.
