Digital News: Script writing workshop
S C R I P T W R I T I N G W O R K S H O P
Today we had a scriptwriting workshop with Zoe Sale and Helen. I found it very challenging as we were given an article that felt like we didn't really have much to go on. We had to create a logline/ title, an intro and a paragraph using the information given. we also had to plan who and how we would film the package. So we thought it would be best to answer the 5 w's in order to get a better idea of the package.
Who: Cheryl Tipp, curator of wildlife and environment sounds at British Library.
locals who may or may not know about the project
What: They were asking people to come forward. A regional thing for that area or a national thing where others can listen. makes people come together
Where: Brighton beach
When: 20th September - This was the day before the closing date so it would've been useful to try and get more people to join whilst they still had one day left.
Why: want to gather as many sounds as possible to reflect the diversity of the coastline and the important role that it plays in our lives.
write intro/ possible tag line:
shells, shores and everything more. Regional recorded sounds needed for online British Library.
(we didn't want to give away too much in the tagline so we wanted to get straight to the point with using some alliteration)
paragraph: Do you know what your favourite beach sounds like? no?well there's a database being created where you can browse through the coastal sounds all over the country. The British Library are searching for amateur recorders to capture the sounds of our shores. If you would like to take part, You can simply record it onto your phone using the Audio boom app, adding a shoresounds hashtag
Things we could do; - could follow someone along to record, a certain person who likes to listen and now gets to record and contribute
- Someone out of the ordinary
- could show contrast between places
All in all I found the task difficult but helpful at the same time because it taught me how necessary it is to be concise yet straight to the point. It taught me the importance of not having really wordy sentences. This is something that I would benefit from as I often try to over word things in my work. I will take what I have learnt and apply it to the project.
