News Unit: Contributors/ Pre Production discussion

Today my group and I sat down and had a catch up of where we are all at in the production;

Confirmed Contributors;

Amy Ashmore - She is a fashion design student who runs her own fashion blog and would be a perfect candidate to talk about the ethics of fashion, She has also given us permission to make use of her blog and can reference it within our work

Wilson MCCabe -  also a Fashion student but also dresses in drag. Will be perfect for our drag queen segment and would be interesting to hear his opinions on the "stolen" make up trends of today.

Donna Ives - Fashion and textiles lecturer. She has confirmed that she would like to be a part of it but would like to be given more information on the project so we have scheduled in a phone call for her on friday.

We initially wanted a real life performing drag queen to take part in our project but unfortunately we are having trouble making contact with them. even though there is a database full of them, they all have a payment requirement within their profiles and some of these range from £25+ an hour.

(What) 3/5 minute video - main presenter in studio (most likely green screen) introduces the topic, introduces the presenter in the separate location (uca rochester campus). It then goes back to the main studio where the main presenter introduces the next topic (make up trends and drag queens) and after this it goes back to the main presenter who then closes off the show.

(where) Locations: We will be shooting on Saturday the 8th at the Maidstone studios in lecture room 2. Reasons why this location is good is because we are able to control the lights better as there wont be any alternating daylight that may work against the green screen effect that we are trying to achieve.

It was important that we got all the necessary pre production for the Shoot days.

After careful planning and discussion with our contributors, we were able to come up with dates to shoot our presenter parts, promo parts and interview parts.  Our first task was to create a risk assessment that would allow us to book out the kit. It is important that we include all the correct details and fill out the form to the best of our ability in order to make sure we are covered for all risks listed. Here is our first Risk Assessment which we needed to shoot the promo and presenter parts in the studio.
  • Here is the risk assessment that was needed to book the equipment:

Script;

  • We also made a draft script where we put shots to go with it, ready to be shown to Helen for our group meeting. There are some questions missing for Wilson's interview but we wanted Helen's opinion on our progress first. It was a challenge writing the script in a way because it is quite difficult to be concise yet plentiful with your words. You have to get your point across without being too wordy and it was a challenge finding the right words to use sometimes but I feel like it was a good start.

Discussion of promo video.

  • We discussed the things that we need to bring for the shoot such as; old, unwanted make up to experiment with the graphics

Next steps:

  • To learn more about green screens and what techniques we need to learn in order  for our shoot to go as smooth as it can.
  • Show Helen the draft script and get feedback
  • create proper shot lists of all the shots we need for different segments
