Documentary: Researching the allocated channel : EDEN

In order for our documentary to fit the brief, it is important that it fits the channel that was set in the brief.

Channel Eden

Quick Facts
-  Founded in 2004
- Owned by UKTV

Here is a chart of the highest watched tv programmes on Eden and below is the highest watched +1 catch up shows watched on Eden

I thought it was interesting that the most popular shows on eden where the animal wildlife ones. Is this what the public deem the most exciting? I also want our documentary to be exciting but I'm not entirely sure what kind of wildlife we could capture as we are limited with budget and equipment. When looking at the show that was rated as number 1 on eden in February; (Galapagos) The show challenged Charles Darwin's discoveries and talks about wild animals, never before seen or heard and carries more of an exploration of animals instead of a hard hitting expository documentary that is usually seen by the likes of Nick Bloomfield. So, it got me thinking about what subjects we could approach to fit the channel. The channel has a lot of wildlife documentaries that consist of a presenter talking about the animals and getting up close and personal with them.

Eden usually broadcasts documentaries that were originally broadcasted from other BBC channels. Shows such as; "Africa" (bbc one), Amazon (bbc two), Arctic with Bruce Harry (bbc Two)  but they also broadcast their own original series such as "Ask Attenborough" and "David Attenborough's Natural Curiosities". David Attenborough is a well known wildlife presenter who usually gets close to the animals he is documenting. It gets me thinking about all the different approaches that could be taken for our documentary. Should we have a presenter to carry the story along? Should we do a documentary about animals in a similar manner to have it fit the channel?  researching the channel really got me thinking about it.
