News Unit: Second AFX tutorial

Image
During this tutorial I learnt so much from Fergus.  We went through after effects and explored the 3D option, We also experimented with the bevel options which could enhance texts and objects and create depth to anything that you have in after effects. This really opened my eyes to the possibilities to how I can enhance the logo and texts that we have in the current graphics. Was able to apply this to our texts after we found them to be quite boring. For saskia's animation, She was able to change the bevel and create depth.  Before Bevel After bevel This is why the second after effects tutorial was so important to us, It really allowed us to enhance the look of our objects which looked flat before. We knew that it was missing something and this tutorial allowed us to figure out how and what it was.  Next steps; To continue to use the bevel effect to create a continuous, dynamic effects.

News Unit: Researching colours and their meaning

Image
Colour Research In order to start creating and experimenting with the branding colours, I thought it would be important to gain a greater understanding on what colours mean ad how they are perceived universally. It is important for us to use the relevant colours for our target audience.   Here is a colour guide that I found on an online marketing website called helpscout.net. I find this helpful as it allows me to get a visual representation of the colours and what it means.Of course these are not set in stone but are general rules that companies tend to abide by.  Of course there are misconceptions about colours and their persuasive abilities but there are studies that prove how much of a difference colour schemes make. For example;  In a study conducted by  Satyendra Singh,  ( Department of Administrative Studies, University of Winnipeg, Canada) She found that;  People make up their minds within 90 seconds of their initial ...

News Unit: Pre production for Shoot days

Image
Pre Production It was important that we got all the necessary pre production for the Shoot days. After careful planning and discussion with our contributors, we were able to come up with dates to shoot our presenter parts, promo parts and interview parts.  Our first task was to create a risk assessment that would allow us to book out the kit. It is important that we include all the correct details and fill out the form to the best of our ability in order to make sure we are covered for all risks listed. Here is our first Risk Assessment which we needed to shoot the promo and presenter parts in the studio.  Risk Assessment; Call sheet for the first shoot at maidstone studios;

News Unit: Re shoot day Number 1. Presenter package and pictures.

Image
Re Shooting the Presenter parts We decided to re-shoot the presenter parts with both Rosie and I. We automatically felt better prepared for the shoot as we knew we had the right amount of kit and also had a bit of practice for the lines. For this day it was our plan to set up the lighting and the kit in ways that would be very flattering for the hosts and to record the presenter broadcasts and take pictures to upload to the website. This meant that we shouldn't have any harsh shadows on the face or the back drop.   The set up;  Since we shot on a white background, We wanted clean lighting. We worked as a team to balance out the lighting and in the end we were really happy with the outcome. Below is an image of the set up on the day and also a still from the footage.   For the sound recording, we used a directional Rode microphone that was pointed at both Rosie and I. We knew this would be fine because we were filming in a confined space with minimal dist...

News Unit: Reviewing and Editing the footage

Image
Reviewing and Editing the footage  What does the footage consist of? Since I was the first one to get the footage I thought I would go through and see how compatible it was with the green screen effect. By following a youtube video online, I was able to effectively get rid of the green screen effect and have a seamless edge of Rosie. I chucked in a random background to see what it looked like and thats when I noticed a few things that were off; Here is the unedited footage Here is the footage after the green screen was removed. What do you first notice about the footage? I first noticed that the white balance was off and Rosie looked much more blue toned once the green screen was removed. It is clear that we did not get the white balance as accurate as possible whilst shooting. However once looking at the footage from some of the promo video, I realised that we had the white balance much better but there were still some shots that were so off; What...

News Unit: Group developments and new idea

Image
Group Developments After reviewing our footage from our first shoot we have decided to make major changes to our script, presenters and overall presentation. Changes; We have now decided to add 2 presenters instead of 1. The presenters will be both Rosie and I. We thought this would make a positive change because two presenters would be able to bounce off of each other and create the more conversational tone which is what we originally wanted. There was one video that I saw on Youtube that made me think this was a good idea. After showing it to the group, we all decided that this could be the style that would suit our channel. What I immediately noticed about this video is the interaction between the hosts. They look at each other and smile but they also give the facts. It is in a reliable yet fun way and I feel like this is something we could try. But to do this, there has to somewhat be a connection between the two hosts so we thought that both m...

News Unit: Updating script and Preparations for the Re-Shoot

Image
Updating The script and making new preparations. What was it previously? We previously had a script that was very long winded and it made it hard to memorise when speaking to the camera so we created one that would. So we knew that we had to make it easily accessible for us to remember.  Here is an example of the old script; Here is the example of the newer script where we just made bullet points;   There is a clear difference between the two and I believe that the second one will help us a lot more as we will be able to fill in the gaps and make it sound much more natural. Shot List Here is the shot list that we created for Wilson's shoot. This is important because we need to be precise on what we want to shoot in order to save time and come away with all the shots we need. Questions Since we had not finished writing in the questions for wilson on the script, we created a second sheet that the interviewer will keep and ask him on the day. We wi...
