Moments: Steve Coombes

Image
What I learnt After the first session with Steve Coombes, we discussed the importance of 'moments'. Moments can be  various  points within film, usually it's things that cant be said which must be shown. So when illustrating real conflict within a character, whatever the character finds difficult to talk about, you must show it instead of having them say it. If it is so easy for them to say then it is not a real conflict. You must show how a character is feeling instead of just saying it, therefore heightening the quality of the character representation.  As Steve spoke about this, it really opened my eyes on how I could really improve my writing, character profiling and scene structures. Especially since its important for me to show my character's emotions within my short story as its heavily dependent on how they feel and develop after being with each other.  We were given the task of finding a moment from a film and noting it down. I have chosen to use &

Memento: Mini review

Memento: Christopher Nolan One of the things I found really interesting about Memento is the journey we must take with the main character. Not just as a story but  the feelings we have towards him. Upon closely following and engaging with the character's motifs, I really began to root for him in hope that he'd find the right killer. You almost begin to feel sorry for him as he is doing everything he can to reach his goal, However, after discovering that he indeed intended to kill his partner to continue his hunt, I no longer felt sorry for him. Instead my feelings shifted against him slightly.  In my opinion, having the ability to shift an entire point of view of a character is a powerful technique that not every director/ producer knows how to execute as well.  This is definitely something that I would like to take on board for my screenplay as I also want to have the audience build a rapport with the characters only to then shift it around.  The Shots Anoth

A Mindmap of my developing ideas

Story Telling: Initial Ideas so far

My Ideas so far For some reason, after hearing the brief, I immediately knew that I wanted my theme to be a Drama. I somehow couldn't shake the idea of the classic boy meets girl for the first time motif. However, I don't want my screen play to be the typical love story, I want to add a twist somehow.  I was thinking of showing the preparations each character must make before they see each other. and by showing the differences in setting and contrasting preparations, it would give subtle hints about what the characters are like.  So far I'm thinking about showing the contrast between how they've met and how they've become.
