Documentary: Interview Workshop

In our first interview workshop, the day was split up into two different sessions. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. In the morning session, a group was chosen at random to demonstrate the different roles that would need to be present in an actual interview and in the second half of the day we then had to go off into our own groups to practice what was shown in the first half.

Morning Session
- For the morning session I volunteered to be the cameraman as I wanted to have a practice as it was the first time using the Sony's since our last project. I thoroughly enjoyed being a camera man because I find it fun creating shots.
- It was definitely a challenge because the demand to be quick to adjust the shots on time was high. I knew I could do it but I felt the pressure a lot especially since it was in front of the whole class.
- My shots were good but I kept accidentally hitting it with my sleeve so now I know that if I am the camera man for any production, I should wear clothing that won't obstruct myself.
-  I also learnt that the camera doesn't have to be locked in and its good to have it unlocked from the tripod to allow fluid, faster movement.

Afternoon session
- In this session, my role was to be the interviewee. I was asked a series of questions by Josh(interviewer).
- Our group also had a lighting set up and did a great job at creating a well lit set.
- I thought it would've been a pretty easy job being interviewed and asked questions but it proved to be a much more difficult job as I realised I had a lot of bad habits that I needed to overcome in order to produce a good interview. Remembering to answer the questions in a self contained manner is something that I struggled with because I was always thinking on the spot and it wasn't as fluid as it could be been in my opinion. So this taught me that its very important that we brief the characters before hand so they know what they need to discuss and so they are also comfortable with us and the whole set up. It may be the first interview they have ever had so its important for us to take that into consideration.
- After the interview was finished, our group thought it would be a good idea to get footage of me making an entrance. And the style of interview that we were going for was one were we show the lighting set up to give a real feel to the whole thing
